USA Today 10 Best Wine Regions 2023
The Finger Lakes has long been know as an amazing producer of wines. Most of the wineries produce a full line of wines from its famed red varieties such as Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, as well as other popular white varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. When visiting the Finger Lakes wine regions, most of the wineries are set along the 11 Finger Lakes banks. Each winery offers their own stunning views and unique landscapes. The 11 finger-shaped glacial lakes, have a cool, even cold, climate. Summer is short, and winter is long and hard with temperatures down to minus 9 degrees F. Without the lakes' moderating influence on the temperatures, it would probably be impossible to make wine here. Fortunately for those of us that love a good wine, there's plenty to choose from. :)
The first record of wine making in the Finger Lakes is in 1829, Commercial viticulture officially began in 1862.
Although most of the wineries are located to the western side of the region there are several wineries located to the eastern side which is where the Hilltop Retreat & Spa is located. Among them is Anyela's Vineyard which is always on or visit list when we come and stay at our home. Just minutes away in Skaneateles
